Long rolls of a waterproof, flexible membrane are layed out and are hand nailed down with round, flat nails. This layer of material replaces the thin sheets of tar paper that are used on tar and gravel roofs. This layer has a light coating of fine granules on the bottom surface to prevent slippage.
After the first layer is applied, the bottom lip of the roof is sealed with an extra layer of waterproof material called flam. This is the area of the roof where most water collects before it flows out the drainage pipes.
The top layer, which is coated with granules and acts as a protective insulating layer, is applied over the first layer with a propane torch. The torch heats the two flexible rubber membranes to a temperature which allows molecular bonding.
Once the top layer is applied, what you have is a super-clean Torch-On roof that is gauranteed to last longer than tar and gravel and is much more attractive as well.
