Ripping a tar and gravel roof involves two basic steps. Step one is sweeping the roof of loose gravel. This can be a dusty and dirty job and an average size roof can easily fill a two ton truck to capacity.
Step two involves ripping the multiple layers of tar and water proofing paper that are beneath the upper layer of gravel. A house of this size could generate close to four 2-ton truck loads of rufuse.
Here you see a house that has been ripped on the right side and has the first flexible membrane layed out.
