Although doing your own roof may give you a sense of satisfaction and save you some money, there are several issues that you may not be aware of in regards to re-roofing your home.
-Roofing is very strenuous work and many homeowners may underestimate the time and effort it requires to rip the existing roof off their home. Old, brittle shingles or multiple layer rip-offs can seriously delay your completion time.
-An inexperienced crew may leave a roof exposed to harmful elements. Without protective shingles, your house can easily suffer costly damages if rained on.
-A typical single layer rip-off can weigh up to two tons depending on square footage. It can be even more if it is a double or triple layer rip. Disposing of such a great quantity of garbage can prove challenging with your friend’s quarter-ton.
-loading as many as 50 bundles of shingles, which may each weigh as much as 65 lbs, requires special equipment or a very strong back.
-Failure to align the shingles may result in roof leaks and just looks bad. Also, improper installation will void the factory gaurantee.
